Foil Radiant Barrier
Foil Radiant Barrier consists of sheets of metal foil that are stapled to the rafters under the roof deck. Foil Radiant Barrier blocks around 97% of radiant emission into the attic. Foil Radiant Barrier has a low material cost, but the installation can be manpower-intensive.
Bubble Foil Radiant Barrier
Bubble Foil Radiant Barrier is similar to Foil Radiant Barrier, only it has a layer of plastic bubbles between two layers of metallic foil. The Bubble Foil Radiant Barrier also blocks about 97% of radiant emission. In addition, the air pocket provided by the bubble layer provides a small amount of conductive insulation (~R-2). Bubble Foil is more expensive than regular Foil, but it is more durable and easier to install.

Spray-On Radiant Barrier
Distinctly different from Foil-type Radiant Barriers, Spray-On Radiant Barrier is a type of paint that is applied directly to the underside of the roof deck using a paint sprayer. Spray-On Radiant Barrier has reduced emission blocking performance compared to Foil Radiant Barriers (depending on the source, ~80%), but is easier to apply for larger buildings.
